The 126th anniversary of the most important anniversary of the Guantánamo province was remembered in Cajobabo with a reduced representation of local authorities and that community, complying with the measures to prevent the spread of COVID 19, they gathered at the foot of the monument that perpetuates the memory of the arrival of Marti, Gómez and 4 other expedition members, on April 11, 1895 to restart the war for independence.
The First Secretary of the Party and President of the Defense Council in the province, Rafael Pérez Fernandez, presided over the activity, together with the main political and governmental leaders of the territory, led by Osmany Guzman Simon and Vilmayda Machado London. Pedro Rodríguez Abad, historian of the town, evoked Marti, his journey through Imías and the significance of this fact.
Pérez Fernandez, highlighted the importance of current and future generations coming to this Sacred Corner of the Homeland to renew energy and preserve the legacy of Marti and the continuity of Fidel, when he placed the flag and the commitment to follow it in the hands of young people, waving free and sovereign.
The tour of Cajobabo was extended to the April 11 Museum, the Martian Forest and to the first stop of the expedition, where a replica of the Casa de los Leyva was opened to visitors. As something peculiar that marked the tour, there was the intervention of the pioneers that make up the project: New Pines, Historians of the Neighborhood.
In the municipal seat, a mini-industry was inaugurated to process food, fruits and vegetables by the usufructuary Arolvis Oliveros Osorio and a Store in Freely Convertible Currency to bring this service closer to the residents.
Once again Marti and History summon us, they commit us to keeping his legacy alive, defying obstacles and turning them into opportunities. The whole of Cuba celebrates this event, although its main stage has been social networks.
